Style Like Me: Part 2

Monday, August 28, 2017

I was going to spread this series out, but you know me, I'm too excited to wait. I mean, I waited 17 days to post part 2, but I'M POSTING ANYWAY! I had a lot of fun taking photos of these ladies and they were dream volunteers. 10/10 would take pictures of them again. Enjoy their photos and their amazing individual personalities!!

Natalie

1) How would you describe your personality?

Probably very dark to be honest. Very passionate and sort of curious.

2) How would you describe your style?

My style is probably just like an eclectic collection of different pieces and styles that I kind of mesh together. Some days I'm more girly and other days, I'm really boho, or some days I can be kinda witchy, autumn vibes. It sort of depends on the season and mood.

3) How do you connect your personality with your style?

Overall, it's just about mood and feeling. I think sort of like personality wise, my music taste really influences what I'm wearing or pop culture, the media, maybe sort of like a more indie, grungy side of that. I find a lot of inspiration from the alternative, loving side of me that I really put into my fashion.

4) What are three things that you love about yourself?

Probably my eyelashes, my desire to know and gain knowledge, and I pride myself in my style so probably that.

Emily

1) How would you describe your personality?

Hmm I think I would definitely describe my personality as "comfortable." I try to have a comfortable environment just because I don't like feeling stressed or upset. Anything that allows me to have the most easy-going situation, I'll do. I like to feel good, and have others around me feel stress free as well. Over all, I like having comfortable fun, in my house, drinking my wine, and watching a movie in peace. That's a good night for my personality!

2) How would you describe your style?

My style changes but I think I've gotten around to "go-to" looks I have. I certainly dress to feel comfortable. I love sweats, joggers, loose sweaters, leggings, you name it. I don't really go above and beyond with my outfits. I'm not gonna be walking around in skin tight clothes, or heels. When I do feel a little fancier, I go for a "60's" comfy mod style. I like turtlenecks and skirts and jean skirts and dresses and stuff that is nice and classy like a black suede skirt with a black turtleneck. So ya girl can get a little fancy hahaha

3) Do you ever connect your personality with what you wear?

FOR SURE!!! I dress the way I am because if I don't feel comfortable in my clothes, I most likely won't feel good all day. Even if I look like I rolled out of bed, i'm okay with that, as long as i'm comfortable.

4) Name 3 things you love about yourself?

girllll I love that I can eat an entire pizza from Little Caesars and be UNPHASED! hahaha. I love that i'm good at talking to people and having them talk to me. I like that about me. And I like that I can stand up for myself. I have little patience sometimes, and usually, when it comes to keeping my friends safe or happy, i'll try to speak up as much as I can.

*Thank you to Emily and Natalie for taking part in this series! You can follow my social medias for this blog (it's NOT my personal accounts. Just accounts for the blog to get the word out there lol) on the side of the page, or at the bottom if you're on a phone! Top 5 of Life: August

Wednesday, August 16, 2017

For all those who are new to my blog, I like to write a monthly post about my 5 favorite things in my life and it can really be ANYTHING. It's a popular YouTube segment, but I decided to write about it instead! I hope you enjoy!

((These top 5's are also part of July but hey, who's paying THAT close of attention?))

1) Birthdays. Now, I know a lot of people hate birthdays and I did too, back when I was super sad about my life. Which was YEARS upon years of depression. I hated getting older. But after my 21st birthday which was one of my worst birthdays ever, I decided to enjoy them. My 22nd birthday had someone who was way more famous than me send me beautiful roses and it was amazing. My past birthday (on July 25th) was my 24th birthday was even better than my 23rd. I had a great full day of friends and laughter and lots of balloons and cake! I love birthdays. I really do.

2) Dunkirk. Okay okay, just because Harry Styles is in it doesn't mean my opinion will change. I think it was an okay movie. Confusing in parts, boring in others, but by golly, the cinematography was GORGEOUS. I saw it in XD so the screen was massive, and the sky and the ocean were so crisp and that's really what I stared at half the time, how beautiful it was. The movie was 100% not Oscar worthy and Harry Styles didn't get a role where he should be nominated for an Oscar, but everyone did a fine acting job. It's just the beautiful nature scenes that should win ALL THE OSCARS.

3) Going out to work on internet things. I love bringing my computer to little cafes, Panera Bread, or Starbucks and working on my blog there. It gets me out of the house and the environment is so relaxing to me. You can go with friends or by yourself (I've done both) but either way, eating and writing is a win-win to me.

4) Panera Bread's agave lemonade. It's a Panera post this month, I guess. I've been going there a lot recently and just discovered their lemonade made with lemons, cane sugar, and agave nectar. Normally I stay away from "healthy versions" of things. Not because I don't want to be healthy, but because I'm VERY picky and I most likely will think it tastes bad. BUT THIS LEMONADE IS AMAZING. It honestly tastes like regular fresh squeezed lemonade. It's just a bit healthier. I recommend this drink to anyone who needs a cool refreshing summer drink.

5) The blogging community. I'm less than a year into this whole new blog of mine (not counting my mental health blog I used to have), so I'm really a newbie. I just made a Twitter and an Instagram specifically for my blog (which does include some personal life tweets sometimes) but I only really follow other bloggers on these accounts. I had no idea there was a whole community of bloggers and how NICE they are! I have yet to encounter a rude blogger, although I do bet there is someone like that out here. I felt so welcomed by the community and ever since joining, my views on my blog have went WAY up. I'm very thankful for them and their open arms, even when I'm still new to all this! (My new twitter and Instagram is linked on this page! Follow me if you'd like!)

Style Like Me: Part 1

Friday, August 11, 2017

I decided to start a series on style and personality because I find it really cool that in most people's lives, those two connect. Sometimes without even realizing it. As for me, I would say that I'm a funny and witty person who can't get enough music. As for my style, I own a lot of Twilight shirts and I wear band shirts on a weekly basis. You see how my personality connects with my fashion choices (albeit, I'm not high fashion)? I just find that so interesting for some reason. I also LOVE photographing people. Nature is cool to shoot, but taking pictures of people make me really happy. So, I decided to create this series, Style Like Me. The people who volunteered for this are REALLY awesome and I hope you guys enjoy reading about the people, seeing their individuality, and like the series as a whole!

Michelle

1) How would you describe your personality?

I would describe my personality as happy, positive and sometimes quiet. i definitely am an introvert. I dislike like being the center of attention which is weird because I'm a fashion blogger. I guess doing what I love pulls me out of my comfort zone and that's not a bad thing.

2) How would you describe your style?

I love mixing and matching things until I get what I'm looking for. I love trying new things. It's all about what makes you feel good and what you feel comfortable in.

3) Do you ever connect your personality with what you wear?

I definitely do, probably without even realizing it sometimes. I think that's what's so great about fashion, you can convey how you feel on the inside to match the outside. You really have ability to be yourself and probably is the reason why I gravitate towards clothes and fashion.

4) Name 3 things you love about yourself

I would have to say if I could choose three things that I love about myself, it would be my ability to have a positive outlook on life. I think sometimes we all take life a bit too seriously and I think it's important to remember to find out what makes you happy. The second thing I would say is that I have such a great relationship with my family. Without them, I wouldn't be where I am today. My family is everything to me and what I cherish the most in this life. Lastly it would be my ability to love everyone. Maybe that is how I was raised but I always try to treat people the way I would like to be treated.

My Favorite Blogger: Zoe London

Saturday, August 5, 2017

I'm the first to admit, I'm not a big blog reader (SHOCK VALUE). I'll of course read the occasional blog but in all honesty, I just can't find my favorite. I enjoy La Femme Collective and The Debrief (which is England based) sometimes, but the rest is mainly fashion blogs that all look the same to me. I just thought I wouldn't ever find one I would like (besides mine...). Until Zoe London.

I actually don't remember when I started following Zoe on Twitter. I don't remember when I started following MOST people on Twitter. But I knew she was a DJ and made YouTube videos (where she has over 64 thousand followers). Every picture on Instagram and video on YouTube she would post just has such a good aesthetic quality that it's hard not to like.

I then learned she had a blog too. I logged on to it and her tabs on top says she writes about fashion, lifestyle, food, beauty, music, travel and video. So really, she does it all. If I had money for all of what she does, I would love my life.
______________

In her 'Fashion' category, she has some tips on blogging, life, and fashion week posts.

In her 'Beauty' category, she has reviews, tips, and cute hair posts.

In her 'Lifestyle' category, she has blogging questions that people wanted answers to, and posts about herself.

In her 'Music' category, she posts about music festivals (many which sponsor her, which is any bloggers goal), and some DJ posts.

In her 'Travel' category, she talks about getting engaged, and her trips to different cities and countries (which is ALSO any bloggers goal. At least it's MY dream to travel).

In her 'Food' category, which really hasn't been updated in a year, has posts about food festivals and fun places she's eaten.

And lastly, in her 'Video' category, she has lookbook tips, hair dyeing videos, and her video series "Band Does My Makeup".
___________

So like I said earlier, Zoe has it all and does it all. If you need a new funky haired blogger, Zoe London is your girl.

My Splat Experience

Sunday, July 30, 2017

----

I wanted to make this post because back in 2016, I made a hair post with tips I used to make my hair nice and it included a lot of hair dying tips. The post was very low on views which honestly, right now I'm okay with. I don't want to delete it because it actually has some smart tips (says me) but I wanted to tell you my experience with my recent hair dye experience. It includes the hair color, Splat, which in my 2016 post, I praised. No more will I praise it.

It all started on the day after my birthday. I dyed my friend's hair with the lavender Splat dye and she didn't use the lightener bleach that it came with so I thought "....I'm going to bleach my hair." Now, I've dyed my whole head with Splat bleach many times. I even dyed my black hair with the bleach and everything was fine.

I looked at the bleach powder package and it looks different than the ones I used to use but it expired in 2019 so I was fine. The oxide bottle that I put the powder in looked different too, but I put it up to a new design. I start bleaching my hair, bottom of my hair, roots last.

Now, I have purple tips from a brand called N'Rage (which is demi-permanent and TERRIBLE. It stays in your hair well, but it bleeds even when the water in the shower runs clear, which I still don't understand...It just stains EVERYTHING). So I used the bleach on my tips and it turned a dark pink. Which honestly, I could live with. BUT THEN, it turned my natural brown hair GREEN. I had nothing under my brown. I didn't even have blue or anything underneath. I COULDN'T HAVE ANYTHING UNDER! IT WAS NATURAL. But but all means, it dyed my immediate roots....

(Here's pics of the incident.)

I freaked out so bad that I contacted my friend who is in cosmetology school what to do. Her teacher told her that I should crush vitamin C tablets with Head and Shoulders and wash my hair a lot and it should take the green out. I washed my hair 5 times with the stuff and it made my green DARKER.

(Here's a pic of my disgusting unbrushed hair that I washed 7 times)

I tweeted Splat because I was in distress and mad, but I was also confused. They never got back to me. I even googled why my brown hair turned green and nothing turned up. HAS THIS NOT HAPPENED TO ANYONE?!?!?

I washed my hair a total of 7 times that night with different remedies and by the morning, my colors were a BIT lighter. But not by much. My brown hair showed through a lot more though.

3 days later, after wearing a beanie twice to work because I was so ashamed and embarrassed, my friend bleached my hair with better bleach (ION bleach, I think? Don't quote me). It didn't take out that darn purple (that Splat turned pink) but now it was very light pink, which I can always cut off when my short hair gets longer. The ends of my hair also turned a white color which is actually my ultimate goal for my whole head. It looks really cool now, different colors of blonde.

(Me now)

Now, I will never be using Splat again. Another Splat personal story: I once bought a blue color at Walmart. Got home and found out that the unopened box didn't contain the dye at all! I emailed Splat, the lady got VERY mad and defensive because I didn't contact Walmart instead I contacted Splat directly. Which was unprofessional on her end. She ended up sending me my dye: in an already opened box and ALREADY USED DYE!!!!!!!!! I vowed to never use Splat again and I didn't until this time around when I only used the bleach.

The company of Splat needs to either change their bleach formula or at least apologize for all the hell they put me through, with that rude lady and me almost shaving my head because of the green.

In conclusion, according to professional friends, Splat hair color is terrible for your hair. Please don't use Splat. I can't really stop you, but please think about the consequences just in case you use it.

Experiencing Etsy

Thursday, June 22, 2017

I have a long running history with the website Etsy. Etsy is a site where you can sell things you make, to put it simply. Items range from homemade bath bombs to bedazzled bras. When I was in my first year of college, I would decorate front of blank notebooks with collages of pictures I would cut out from magazines. That was my first posting on Etsy. I mean, those notebooks never sold but it was my first time. I then made a sweater with the lyrics to a Lorde song screen printed online on the front and I sold a couple of those. I then went bigger and drew band lyrics and names in my handwriting on shirts and I sold a good amount of those until I almost got shut down for copyright for using the phrase "5SOS" which stood for 5 Seconds of Summer, a band (still pretty bitter about it). I then started all over and made a new shop for shirts where I put my own quotes I made up on them. That shop definitely went under quick (see my old post about my shirt business). But I decided to reach out to some Etsy sellers that I found via different parts of the internet and I wanted to get THEIR opinions on Etsy, which I thought would be cool in case someone was looking into starting their own Etsy shop!

People and shops that I interviewed:

Suki Sabur
 Suki's Etsy is: X
Suki also sells on ASOS Marketplace and the link is: X

Eclectic River Designs
Their Etsy is: X

Bath Bomb and Stuff
Their Etsy is: X

  1) What made you want to start selling on Etsy?

Suki:  So I decided that I wanted to start my own business when I was at uni, I always knew I wanted to work for myself but I just wasn't sure what I'd make etc. When I finished uni I decided to just go for it and as the products are handmade, Etsy just seemed like a good fit and quite simple to open up a shop.

Eclectic River Designs : At the time I started my business, around 2013, my sister was on Etsy with her business and convinced me to open a shop. I'm glad I listened lol!

Bath Bomb and Stuff: I started my Etsy shop when I fell in love with Bath Bombs! I thought that I could easily create those and sell them. I love taking a bath with a purpose! Why not share that with other people!

2) What's you're favorite part about Etsy?

Suki: My favourite part is probably all the lovely customers. I feel like people who buy from Etsy know what they are paying for and are genuinely very lovely. It's also the fact that there's a wide variety of people who shop and sell on there, which I find very exciting and motivating.

Eclectic River Designs : For me Etsy is super easy and quick. My son has a rare syndrome called 4p- Syndrome and requires most of my time, I'm help my husband run his kayak/canoe rental business so I'm pretty busy. Etsy takes out the worry and hassle of marketing and up keep a website would bring. I've tried a website and it was way too much work.

Bath Bomb and Stuff: I love Etsy. It is easy to have a shop and it is very low cost.

3) Are there any things you've encountered that you don't really like when it comes to Etsy?

Suki: I guess when you're starting up it's very difficult to get your products seen as there's so many shops and products. Also the fact that you can see how many sales you've made, as when you've got 0 sales and you've just opened shop it can be very daunting.

Eclectic River Designs: Not really. I mean sometimes my bill frustrates me but what bill isn't frustrating lol!

Bath Bomb and Stuff: I have had a rude customer or 2. I have a hard time with that. I shoot for the best quality service and product as I can. I have run into a few that have complained and would not let me fix the problem.

4) If you could pick one item, what's your favorite item you sell?

Suki: my favourite I guess is the clutch bags and makeup bags, as a lot of people will use them for special occasions and weddings etc and send photos, which is an amazing feeling when I know that someone loves your products. One of my fave colours is the Night Sky Purple Rainbow Glitter and the Burnt Orange Glitter.

Eclectic River Designs : I cant lie, my body jewelry are my best sellers and I wear them too!

Bath Bomb and Stuff: I would say that my Whipped Body Butter is my favorite product, besides my Bath Bombs. I have very dry and itchy skin and my Whipped Body Butter really helps with that.

___

I want to thank Suki, Mary and Jennifer, who were total strangers to me and were SO so kind to answer my questions when I reached out. It means a lot. And every one of these shops are special and different from each other and they all have AMAZING products!!!

Top 5: June 9th, 2017

Friday, June 9, 2017

----

It's time for another Top 5, which I've been told by 2 people is their favorite part of my blog? Thank you so much for even reading my blog in the first place (almost to 3,000 reads, by the way!!!) BUT I'm going to just get right into this thing:

1) Sad Boy by Rad Horror. I've followed this band on Twitter for a good amount of time, but I have no idea how I found them, if I'm honest. I bought their song Take Me Back To Your House when I went to Los Angeles (AKA my biggest adventure of my current adult life) and listened to it when I would walk down the palm tree-ridden streets by myself to get rice at the corner Chinese restaurant. Rad Horror just came out with a new song called Sad Boy and I immediately listened to it and couldn't stop playing it on repeat. I texted a friend about it and even put it on my Facebook to let everyone know just how good it is. It is an explicit song (sorry mom) but it's also emotional and I kind of related to it. I reached out to Dylan Scott via Twitter DM and honestly, couldn't ask for a nicer guy to talk to.

Here's my question I asked him: " Lyrics for Sad Boy are more on the emotional side and as an adult, i connect with the song when it says "I never felt this way when I was young." I feel like during part of my adult life I was just...sad (for lack of better term). Do you write your songs (or this song in particular) to connect with people or are they written to get out some emotions within yourself?"

Dylan's answer: "I write all my lyrics from personal experiences. You won't ever hear a word out of my mouth that wasn't true at one point or another in my life. I believe in being as honest as possible so the fans can truly see inside of me. They deserve that much"

I also met him in 2014 at the Halsey concert and here's the most blurry picture of us in the world. You're welcome.

**Thank you to Dylan for letting me talk to you for a quick second. I can't wait to buy a Rad Horror shirt (If you want a Rad Horror shirt or buttons, go here X)

2) SO MANY YOUTUBERS video by Mavis Slade. I feel like this blog is obsessed with Mavis? Is it? Maybe? But honestly, I'll watch other YouTube videos but I watch the most of Mavis' videos. I usually sit down and catch up on what I haven't watched in the last couple months and binge. This was my favorite recent video because it was a lot of fun trying to play "what YouTubers do I know?" Mavis went to an event and met many YouTubers and filmed a lot of it and I felt like I didn't know enough people that she filmed, BUT I KNEW SOME! 3 of them have Netflix movies that I've seen...if you love YouTube, I think this video would be for you.

3) Emails. Simple yet still my favorite way to communicate. I email companies with questions like "hey can I film in your bowling ally" and concert venues with questions like "I'm confused at your ticket policy". And 97% of the time, I get a response back and I can't tell you how giddy I get when I see an email? I have no idea why, but it's nice to ask questions without having an actual word limit or worrying about if my text is too long. I also have an email buddy that I reached out to through her article in Teen Vogue and she is maybe the most interesting person I know. Getting her emails make my whole week. So yeah, email is in my Top 5. Also here's a shirt that I need:

(If you want it too, use the code Hubrex for money off at Soaestheticshop.com!)

4) My Rolling Stones shirt from H&M. I admit, I don't fit in H&M's woman's clothes and I rarely fit in their men's unless it's oversized. I have a long for The Rolling Stones and I saw they had a tank in their men's section and I got it right away. I didn't even try it on, even though it probably wouldn't fit. I went on, tried it on, and was SUPER excited that it fit. It was definitely meant for a guy because the sides are low cut and as a girl, it shows most of my bra. BUT if I wear it with a flannel, then all is good! Very happy with it, but it's  not online so I can't get a picture of it!!!

5) The album Hopeless Fountain Kingdom by Halsey. This album is Halsey's recent album that just came out, and let me tell you, I was really disappointed in it the first couple times I listened to it. It was suppose to be a love story between 2 people and the whole album was suppose to connect together and it really didn't. Halsey responded to a fan on Twitter that this album WASN'T about toxic relationships (kind of like Badlands, her first album, was about) but there are some songs that seem like it's all about toxicity. There ARE songs about independence, but Halsey always writes about it in a...different way. All in all, the album concept confused me and the 2 "songs" of the album that were all talking really turned me off. The songs didn't grow on me until the 4th play of the album. Now, I can't stop listening to it on my walks around my block and when I walk into work with my headphones on . Walls Could Talk could be the best song on the album if it wasn't less than 2 minutes long, so my bet is that Don't Play is the best song on the album. Very explicit (the whole album isn't meant for some people), but I'm now a Hopeless Fountain Kingdom convert.
